EDITOR'S LETTER

Welcome to September. I assume you’re all worn out from the summer festivals (which were good, eh?) and now ready for the autumn action – surely to include some bright spark telling you exactly how many shopping days there are before December 25th. But onwards with the year’s busy period, where you can start planning your winter wardrobe as well as planning a few active days out still left in 2010’s calendar. Some of this month’s liveliest encounters are: the annual festival finale which is Bestival on the Isle of Wight, from the 9th, sees a spectacular mix of acts on the bill, hopefully getting the perfect weather to go with it; also to complement the vibe is the Offset Festival in Hainault Forest Country Park on the first weekend, showing off local heroes and established names to do the area more than proud. If pedalling up hill and down dale is your thing, then you might fancy venturing up to the border of Essex and Suffolk on the 17th where some of the world’s best cyclists will be out for the seventh stage of The Tour of Britain, the UK’s biggest pro bike race. The Queen’s Theatre in Hornchurch is back with its Comedy Club on Thursday 23rd, with this month’s acts including Ian Moore, Adam Bloom and James Acaster; and on Sunday 5th there is the much-loved Great British Duck Race at Molesey Lock near Hampton Court Palace – a charitable event that puts the fun back into the swing of things. On the nightlife scene: The Bird Cage in Chingford is the latest place to be seen at, with its swanky decor, enviable VIP area and the funkiest of funky house; Mojoes in South Woodford is still glowing from its mega celebrity guest appearance, who was none other than Pamela Anderson enjoying the bar’s party vibe; Warehouse is on the attack with what their punters love, plus the DJs in the pipeline over the next few weeks will see you all right; Kosho in Romford offers up something different during the week, with a quiz night on the Wednesday leading up to Noir on the Friday and the trendy Saturday Sessions; and Lizard Lounge also show their week-long stamina with live acts, karaoke, and musically potent weekends with the DJs playing you something deeper. Also, if you are making a move into town, then London’s club of the moment – Cable, Bermondsey Street tunnel SE1 – will not disappoint, where Chew The Fat are holding their 13th birthday celebrations on the 4th, and A Bunch of Cuts (I have spelt that correctly) on the 18th will allow you to experience the phenomenal soundsystem and the line-up of DJing royalty. September certainly has lots going on... so look lively, get busy whilst catching some rays, and enjoy the month with 30 good days. Dan
